Do you want custom avatars on GCF?
Due to considerable input on this feature recently, we the moderation team of GCF would like to give you the opportunity to shape the site and voice your opinion.

Our original thinking here at GCF was to disallow custom avatars to maintain a work-friendly and appealing environment.

That said, this comes at the expense of member creativity, and we do not wish to stifle anyone's expression.

We are proposing to implement the option of custom avatars on GCF with the following reasonable conditions:
  • 70x70 px in size, the same size as current avatars
  • No overtly sexual content
  • Only work safe content
  • No memes please (what are your thoughts on this one?)
  • Moderator maintains final discretion to approve or deny an avatar

Let us know your thoughts -- we are listening.

RE: Do you want custom avatars on GCF?
Yup.

Exhibit A: I'd put up a image of a "Type 3" badge for my car- a badge specific to the Australian market. Nothing fancy, but something that's very "me".

With some time I could even find the pic I'll use.

Absolutely. I'd like to think we can keep it reasonable. And I'll even volunteer to patrol and report offensive content.

Seems very reasonable. I think you could even go so far as stipulating that avatars must be car-related.

No shoes, no shirt, and I still get service. Wah!

Why are you not allowing internet memes? There are some pretty funny things passing through that are safe and not rude in any way.

I vote for 100px x 100 px size. It seems more of a standard forum size. I made an illustration to show it's not much larger but big enough to have MOAR in your avatar.

Some are funny, most are not IMO. Your input is appreciated though -- I'd like to hear others' opinions on this.

I personally like Vman's suggestion of car-related only, but we will not require that if most are not in favor.

The 70x70 px size is absolute though -- the CSS and other site formatting is based around that size currently.

We need as many opinions as possible to ensure that we can implement the best compromise of the opinions of the majority here.

RE: Do you want custom avatars on GCF?
I say the site should reflect the people who use it, and with that said this is not a "neat and fit" kinda website but a gay guys car site. A site where we can come out as not the typical gay guys but one's who love cars and sometimes working on them. A personal avatar helps us express our individuality, and also to distinguish our selves.

I personally am having a hard time keeping up with all the new screen names as I am more of a visual person, and if we had personalized avatars that would go a long way in improving our familiarity with each other & I think it would be a good symbol of our growth to allow this. After all we have how many VW fans here, and only one VW avatar to choose from?

As for the cars only requirement, I suppose that is better than from all of us having to pick from the same pics but I think that a limit on how often you can change them would be better severed, if that is even an administratable option.
