Expansion of BMW's M Brand Begins With Diesels in Europe
Imagine telling a BMW M enthusiast 10 years ago that the brand would eventually sell tri-turbo AWD automatic-only diesels...
http://www.kilometermagazine.com/artman2...urope.html ![]() Kilometer Magazine Wrote:BMW's performance division, formally M GmbH, has in the past produced some of the most desirable performance coupes and sedans for pure driving enthusiasts. Recognizing the marketing power of M, BMW started a program of brand expansion a few years back, starting with the the X5M/X6M wünder-twins, which introduced three new concepts to the hallowed moniker: trucks, turbos and all-wheel-drive.

I like the theory. Let's see how it pans out in the real world.
And I like the wagon! Who knew? I don't like any of the late model BMWs, but I like that one... It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow |

Meh.
What happened to cars like the M developed 850CSi, E39 M5, E30 M5.. etc. :sigh: Oh well - Better for me to have my ongoing love affair with 90s/early 2000s BMWs. Makes my dream 'stable' much more attainable. |

Yeah, I kinda feel like they've lost their way. But with oil prices only ever going higher, we'll see a ton more diesel and hybrid applications in sporty cars, I'm sure. So it is what it is.

I'd rather diesel than hybrid though... and nothing automotively speaking is going to be the way is was. Either you were there to enjoy those cars new OR you were too late and have to see them in their faded glory.

I'd rather electric than either, but yeah. Get in while it's still good.
