Guess I should formally ID myself for once
I'm a blue collar shmuck (read:no money) from the Tacoma, WA area.
Daily beater is a 2000 Subaru Impreza.
Hobby car, when I get around to it, is a '69 VW Squareback.

Past cars- from most recent
1999 Chevy S10
1977 Ford F250 - crunched
1969 VW Fastback -crunched
1972 VW bus
1966 VW bus (shell)
1998 Nissan Sentra
1992 Ford Taurus wagon - crunched
1984 Chevy Celebrity -DOA after driver's ed training

If I wasn't 6'5" tall, there was a seriously hot aussie twink with a german accent a block down from me that I would have bought a cute Porsche 914 from instead of the '66 bus. I was 19 at the time. He didn't seem so "twinkish" then.
Pics of the most recent cars are scattered accross the computer backups from the last decade. Pics of me? Not likely to happen.

Wait, you're in Tacoma? I'm just down the road in Parkland...we should go driving sometime.

No shoes, no shirt, and I still get service. Wah!

I spend way too much time in Parkland, including but not limited to Pacific Import Auto. Feeding the addiction, right into debt...Big GrinBlush

RE: Guess I should formally ID myself for once
grethi...

If you have a '69 Squareback I bet you're familiar with Avery's Air Cooled Auto Parts? You can visit http://www.averres.com for more information.

My father-in-law bought two new Volkswagens in 1970, Bus and Squareback. My mother-in-law drove the SB until 1994. That car had over 1 million miles on it. The bus was driven until 1996 and my father-in-law built a small block Chevy engine, himself and that thing moved! He loved poking along I5 and letting cars pass him as most often happens. He would then floor it and fly past the other driver. I'll have to post photogrphs of his vehicles on this board. They are beyond what you'll ever imagine a car designer could come up with. He is an engineer and loves to "tinker". He was in the middle of building a '68 Mercedes Benz 280, I think, that he and my mother-in-law were going to drive around the U.S. in when she was diagnosed with Cancer. Since her passing in 2004 he has not touched the Mercedes. We keep encouraging him to no avail. I digress..... he knows the owner of Avery's very well and has always sourced his parts from Steve. You may mention Gale when/if you're ever at Avery's and I'm sure he'll share some stories of Gale's creations with you.
Oh...the Bus and the SB were sold to friends of Avery's and both were fully documented. I remember the day they were gone. It was very sad but they had to go as it was time to spend less on maintaining the old VW's and get something newer.

Oh...I'll get photographs of the Mercedes to post as well.

David
You're 6 feet 5 inches tall? Wow! I have two friends that you'd stare right in they eyes. Problem is one lives in Palm Springs and the other lives in Scottsdale Arizona. If you found the right man would you be willing to relocate?

No worries because I'll keep searching!

David
