Jenson Button, the reigning 2009 Formula One World Champion, has taken delivery of a limited edition Mercedes C-Class DR 520 Estate.

Decked out in matt black, the uber estate is a C63 AMG on steroids. The 6.3-liter V8 engine produces 520 PS (382 kW / 513 hp) and 650 Nm (479 ft-lb) of torque - 60 PS (44 kW / 59 hp) and 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) more than the standard C63 AMG - thanks to forged pistons, new connecting rods and a revised crankshaft. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h).

Other goodies include titanium accents, leather / Alcantara sport seats, and an AMG braking system.

While Button probably got his car for free, regular folks will have to cough up £63,680 for a chance to own one of the twenty DR 520s that will be produced.

Mercedes puts out a nice wagon as does BMW IMO. What's your thought on Matte finishes? I was raised very near the ghetto of Los Angeles and I guess I saw too many Matte finishes of the time to enjoy now.

Better on old cars; looks too unfinished for a brand new car.

There is a huge difference between your average ghetto matte paint job and some of these show-quality and even OEM matte paints coming from Mercedes and BMW these days.

While certainly not to everyone's taste, I feel some of these matte finish cars are much more attractive in person, although the total look is highly dependent on the quality of the finish otherwise it does look very ghetto. I saw a newer 7-Series that looked absolutely terrible the other day -- I figured it must have been a cheap vinyl wrap or just terrible paintwork.

Several months ago BMW released a special limited edition matte Frozen Gray M3 Coupe by BMW Individual -- you may have heard of it. This is a matte/satin paint finish done well IMO.

Wimbledon...You know the quickest way to my heart! You're right and I forgot about the Frozen Gray M3. Matte paint finishes are highly dependent on the quality as the example you point out above. However I still think on Jensen MB Wagon it doesn't satisfy my tastes.

I must note that I just realized Jensen and I play for the same team, uh, we both work for the same company.

Bimmerguy please realize there is a HUGE difference between matte and satin. It has to do with the paint mixture and the texture.

Regardless of whether the finish is matte or satin, the quality of the finish really is paramount IMO when these sorts of finishes are so easy to screw up and then make the car look like it belongs in the ghetto.
