Signature limitations
Maybe someone has already mentioned this, but I am going to anyways. I'm at a loss as to how to fit all my OCD inspired mods to all my whips with the current 255 character max limit. I say raise it to about double and I promise to keep the font size x-small.

RE: Signature limitations
If you need more space, consider moving your mods to the bio section of your profile. Sm2

Add something to the effect of "mods in bio" to your sig and you should be set!

RE: Signature limitations
Well why is it that we cannot have photo signatures on GCF? I actually don't mind the clean signature-less look of the place, but on the otherhand it would be nice to see people's cars (or whatever else they want to show) like on most forums.

RE: Signature limitations
Honestly, I think the pictures in the signatures on other forms get annoying. The pages get cluttered and people put in bigger and bigger pics. I actually turn off signatures on most forums I read because it just gets to be too much.

Maybe an alternative is to post the pics of your car in the "Your Rides" forum, and then put a link to the pics in your signature?

RE: Signature limitations
I think you should enable pictures but only allow a height of 120 pixels, to keep them small and regulated.

RE: Signature limitations
I'd much rather we get the option to have our own avatars (w/ size limit and nothing obscene). This would be better than sig images.

While I don't like the idea of having this place become tacky, I think this site errs too far on the other side. This place comes across as a bit stuffy and utilitarian as it is now. I feel that users should at least be allowed *some* facet to allow their personality to shine through.

On my other forums I'm heavily involved in, we allow for a 100x100 avatar, and no sig images. It has worked out perfectly for the combined ~8 years we've had those sites running. Sure, someone pushes the limits on rare occasion, but the mods always have access to their profile to delete the avatar if needed.

I think this is a perfectly reasonable solution. Sm10

RE: Signature limitations
All constructive input is always appreciated, so thank you all for sharing your comments.

When managing this forum we always try to find the best compromise for all policies, as no decision with regards to this issue will please everyone.

From day one, we have consistently directed the forum in a fashion that leans a little on the conservative, tasteful, and as work-friendly as possible. We believe this is in the best interest of the forum community. It's worth noting that these policies on avatars and signatures were inspired by Vortex Media Group, which successfully manages the world's largest automotive forum (VWVortex.com) along with many others and has done so for many years.

I'd like to reiterate that we in no way wish to hinder anyone's abilities of personal expression on this forum; please make as many threads and posts as you wish to express yourself.

At this time, the current policies on avatars and signatures will remain, although that does not close the possibility of change in the future. As the forum reaches growth milestones we periodically review the forum policies and will make changes as necessary.

If this dissatisfies you, please do not take it personally. We are simply in pursuit of the best compromise that will be in the best interest of the entire forum.

Thank you.
